I think it’s really important to take into account how much of a countries gdp comes from tourism. Bali, for instance, relies on tourism as the single largest factor of its economy and bringing the locals quality of life up compared to other areas in Indo.

And the trash in the water is horrible and a tragedy and something that needs more attention, however there’s no link to that and tourism.
